Community Health Worker

Who We Are:
Detroit Recovery Project Inc. (DRP) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that provides outpatient recovery support services for those with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We treat the whole person through our integrated programs of primary medical and behavioral healthcare.
Our program philosophy is rooted in developing a healthy recovery ecosystem for those seeking long-term recovery. Through strong therapeutic relationships with our clients helping them to understand the underlying social and emotional issues that drive their substance use the recovery ecosystem focuses on five key areas:

What were looking for:
DRP is currently seeking full-time Community Health Workers (CHW). The CHW will combine their lived experience with professional Best Practices to provide support to clients in various stages of the Recovery process. The CHW provides direct support to health system navigation education health advocacy and linkage to relevant services including social support services to those recently and/or long term diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. The CHW will work with participants minimally until the participant starts medical treatment but can continue to work with the participant as long as necessary to develop self-management tools and reach stabilization.
Compensation Range: The starting pay range for this position is $18-$20 per hour and is based on non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience. This is a non-exempt role that is eligible for overtime compensation.
The Ideal candidate will:
- Have a great attitude and people skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Have a flexible work schedule including the occasional evening holiday and weekend as needed.
- Engage active Persons Who Inject/Use Drugs (PWID/PWUD) into Harm Reduction Services
- Maintain knowledge around infectious disease as it relates to PWID/PWUD and educate participants on risk and prevention.
- Provide rapid HIV/HCV tests.
- Be comfortable distributing safe use and safe sex supplies.
- Link individuals to identified services (housing treatment medical services employment etc.)
- Provide services directly to the community on the mobile unit.
- Be comfortable with maternalinfant health particularly supporting pregnant individuals nursing parents and infants in clinical or community-based settings.
- Input data directly into iPad/tablet during services.
- Have knowledge of HIV/AIDS risk behaviors STDs human sexuality SUD and HIV behavior change principles and strategies.
- Develop and maintain written documentation (assessments service plans progress notes monthly reports and other programmatic documentation)
- Have a great attitude and people skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Have a flexible work schedule to include the occasional evening holiday and weekend as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Associates degree in guidance and counseling psychology social work vocational rehabilitation business or public health administration or a related field is preferred.
- State HIV Certification preferred
- Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) and/or Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM) are preferred
- CHW Certification preferred
- First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
- Experience in maternalinfant health particularly supporting pregnant individuals nursing parents and infants in clinical or community-based settings
- Minimum of one year experience in providing direct services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS
- A valid and unrestricted State of Michigan Drivers License proof of insurance and reliable transportation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Electronic Health/Medical Records Systems
