Position Overview

Target Metal Blanking is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented entry-level team member to support our Purchasing department. This role works directly alongside the lead purchaser and plays a critical part in maintaining material flow, supplier follow-ups, and internal coordination between Purchasing, Accounting, CSRs, and Operations.

This position is ideal for someone early in their career who wants exposure to steel purchasing, forecasting, mill communication, and supply chain operations. No prior steel or purchasing experience is required — we are looking for someone reliable, organized, and willing to stay on top of details and follow-ups.

Key Responsibilities

Forecasting & Material Planning Support

• Review daily and weekly forecasts by program
• Use our ERP system and excel reports to identify upcoming material needs or shortages
• Alert Purchasing and Operations leadership when gaps or risks are identified

Purchase Order & Inventory Coordination

• Review open purchase orders and coordinate tripping coils from Target Steel to Target Metal Blanking once material is received
• Assist with intercompany transfers, including coordination with Accounting for invoicing once trained
• Clean up old or inactive purchase orders, confirming status with mills as needed

Mill & Supplier Follow-Up

• Track down mill test reports / certifications when not sent automatically
• Follow up regularly with mills on late or past-due orders
• Obtain and communicate updated mill pricing on open purchase orders, including quarterly price updates

Internal Communication & Support

• Work with CSRs to provide status updates on mill orders and expected delivery timing
• Coordinate with Target setups and Operations on coils requiring pickling or outside processing prior to transfer
• Support Lead Purchaser with day-to-day administrative and coordination tasks

Accounting & Pricing Support

• Assist with pricing updates on open POs based on mill changes
• Work with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies related to mill pricing or shipments

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma required; some college coursework a plus
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working with spreadsheets, reports, and internal systems
• Ability to follow up persistently and communicate clearly with vendors and internal teams
• Willingness to learn purchasing, forecasting, and supply chain processes
• Strong sense of ownership and follow-through
