Role Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor (2nd Shift) oversees daily operations within a fleet maintenance shop, reporting to the Maintenance Manager. This role leads A/B/C-level technicians and lead mechanics in executing preventive maintenance programs, advanced diesel diagnostics, and heavy equipment repair across fleet vehicles, post-collection machinery, container shop equipment, and alternative fuel assets.

The supervisor ensures safe, compliant, and efficient shop operations while driving productivity, maintenance scheduling, quality control inspections, and team performance in accordance with OSHA, DOT, and federal/state regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and mentor technicians across multiple skill levels
• Provide technician coaching, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action management
• Lead daily shop meetings, safety briefings, and fleet inspections
• Partner with HR on hiring, workforce planning, promotions, and employee relations
• Deliver operational reporting and process improvement recommendations
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Maintenance Operations & Shop Management

• Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and corrective repair workflows
• Oversee advanced mechanical troubleshooting and complex equipment diagnostics
• Perform quality assurance inspections and validate vendor repair work
• Conduct road tests and confirm repair accuracy
• Support diesel and alternative fuel fleet maintenance programs
• Optimize technician utilization and shop productivity

Technical Maintenance Expertise

Hands-on oversight and support across:

• Diesel engine and chassis repair
• Transmission, brake, suspension, and steering systems
• Hydraulic systems repair
• Electrical and electronic diagnostics
• HVAC systems for fleet vehicles
• Emissions systems testing and compliance
• Welding and structural repair of heavy-duty equipment

Safety, Regulatory Compliance & Audit Readiness

• Enforce OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies
• Ensure regulatory compliance documentation and maintenance record accuracy
• Conduct safety inspections and manage corrective action tracking
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and preventive maintenance logs
• Support environmental and emissions compliance standards

Inventory, Budget & Administrative Oversight

• Manage shop inventory control and parts procurement processes
• Approve expenses within delegated budget authority
• Maintain accurate entries in Dossier maintenance software
• Support payroll coordination and labor reporting
• Assist with departmental budgeting and cost control initiatives
• Align team performance metrics with operational KPIs

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3+ years fleet maintenance or heavy equipment repair experience
• At least 1+ year in a supervisory or lead technician role
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and federal/state safety regulations
• Demonstrated expertise in diesel diagnostics and mechanical troubleshooting
• Effective leadership, communication, and team development skills
