Looking for a position with work-life balance? The Grand Traverse County Road Commission is looking for a Heavy Duty Truck Technician . This position is part of a team of mechanics with specialized skills that work to keep trucks and equipment operating efficiently and safely. Our technicians perform preventive maintenance, repair and upgrade trucks and equipment, and utilize their skills to fabricate and engineer innovative solutions.

GTCRC provides consistent hours and paychecks and work that makes a difference in our community. The team of mechanics contributes to our mission of maintaining a safe and efficient road system. Technicians work on a variety of machines and engines, including front-end loaders, graders, dozers, plow trucks, fleet trucks, and other equipment used by the Road Maintenance Crew.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of two years of related experience in performing routine and preventative maintenance on vehicles, medium and heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment. Experience is needed in using fleet management systems and computer-based diagnosis. Education requirements are a high school diploma/GED and training in mechanical/technician skills. Wage is determined by experience and the number of State of Michigan Certifications for Heavy Duty Truck repair. Candidates must be flexible in their ability to work on a variety of machines and trucks, and must be able to work effectively on a team. Troubleshooting skills are highly desirable. A CDL is preferred, but not required.
