The Project Specialist, under the direction of the Assistant Health Director, is responsible for performing a wide range of difficult to complex administrative activities requiring diverse advanced knowledge and expertise relating to healthcare administration, strategic planning, project management, facility project management, grant writing, evaluation, management and monitoring. In addition, the Project Specialist will directly coordinate large complex projects for the Health Division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direct service and support to departments within the Health Division and assists with identifying departmental needs, managing special projects, coordinating developing, monitoring strategic plans, and organizational needs as it relates to grants and Health Division goals and objectives.
  • Provides assistance in grant writing, proofing, and submitting of grant proposals to funding agencies.
  • Researches grant opportunities which will benefit the Tribe and disseminates the information appropriately.
  • Coordinates and facilitates complex projects for the Health Division.
  • Participates in the development and coordination of Health Division Strategic Planning
  • Ensures compliance, monitoring, reporting and oversight over Federal grants.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares, participates and/or delivers presentations to the Board of Directors, tribal programs and communities as needed.
  • Attends Board of Directors and program level meetings, department meetings, and appropriate committee meetings.
  • Travels to meetings and conferences in state and occasionally out of state.
  • All other job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, Directors, Executives, Board of Directors, customers and outside vendors/service providers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position includes lifting a maximum of 20 pounds. Physical factors include must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position and type; occasionally being able to move inside various facilities and office settings, being able to distinguish verbal communications and exchange information, being able to distinguish, perceive, judge, and inspect, or observe details at close and far range, being able to lift, push, pull and carry items up to 20 pounds. Working conditions include occasional exposure to extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise, and air quality. Working conditions include contact with the general public and as such could be exposed to infection. Potential hazards include constant computer use.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION : Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, General Business, Healthcare Management, Operations Management, Public Health Management, Planning and Development or five years demonstrated ability in related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years work experience in Planning and Development, Project Management, Grants Management or Health Administration required in addition to above stated degree requirements.

Certification/License: Must maintain a good moral character standing. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience, interest and commitment to healthcare for underserved groups preferred. Must have working knowledge and ability to use word processing and spreadsheet and database software. Must have working knowledge and be able to use office machines, such as calculator, copier, fax, printer and computer. Must have working knowledge of typical office operations. Must be able to write reports, proposals, budgets and related correspondence in a clear and concise manner. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Must have strong data analytics skills. Must be able to perform internal and external environmental scanning, trend forecasting, and make recommendations on strategic alignment of grants with funding sources and Health Division goals and objectives. Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisory personnel, coworkers and the general public. Must have excellent organization skills; organizing work, prioritizing tasks and managing time. Must be able to prepare and present information to a variety of audiences. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision. Must maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work flexible schedule.
