Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Walker, MI

Salary Range: $66,000 - $99,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
• Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Develop, implement, and deliver EHS training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation and specialized topics.
• Investigate all EHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Manage hazardous waste streams, ensuring proper segregation, storage, disposal, and record-keeping in accordance with regulations.
• Develop and maintain site-specific EHS programs, policies, and procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, hazard communication).
• Oversee the maintenance of all required environmental permits and licenses, ensuring timely renewals and compliance.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state-specific environmental and safety regulations.
• Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage EHS programs (e.g., LOTO, confined space, hazardous waste).
• Strong communication, training, and incident investigation skills.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with Lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Proficiency with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Intelex, Cority, Sphera).
• Certification or experience as an internal auditor for ISO 14001 or ISO 45001.
• HAZWOPER certification or experience in hazardous waste management.
