Youth Ministries Director

Commerce United Methodist Church (CUMC) is seeking to fill the part time position of Youth Ministries Director. The Church seeks to hire an energized, motivated individual with a strong Christian faith and ability to communicate this to others. This individual should have a passion and knack for relating with and inspiring young people, as well as a desire to help them to grow in Faith.

This position reports directly to the Pastor.

Responsibilities will include:

• Direct and oversee the Christian based youth (6th -12th grade) programs. This includes but is not limited to: planning and implementing youth group meetings, confirmation classes, bible study, spiritual growth opportunities, mission projects and trips, camp experiences and other fellowship opportunities beneficial for the young members of CUMC. The Youth Ministries Director will also maintain effective communication with parents and youth regarding youth events as well as the needs and interests of the youth membership.
• Identify and implement opportunities to grow youth membership and participation in the Church. This includes developing and managing plans to follow up with Church members and visitors, as well as for outreach to the community at-large and the church community network.
• Recruit and train volunteers to assist with youth education, spiritual development and fellowship activities. This includes training and oversight of volunteers to assist with ensuring minimum protection policy guidelines, mentoring confirmands, and assisting in other youth ministries at CUMC.
• Other tasks assigned by the Pastor and Staff Parrish Relations Committee (SPRC).

Qualifications:

• A passion for and interest in working dynamically and creatively with youth.
• A strong Christian faith and ability to communicate this to others.
• Supportive of the United Methodist Discipline and Wesleyan Theology.
• Approachable, willing and able to work well with CUMC staff and Church families.
• Previous work with youth. (Minimum volunteer experience, previous paid experience preferred.)
• College degree desired. Focus of study in areas related to religion, ministry or adolescent development preferred.
