Category Manager / Buyer – Convenience Store Distribution

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of purchasing or category management experience in grocery or convenience distribution industry required.
• Proven success in negotiating directly with manufacturers and managing supplier programs.
• Experience with grocery or convenience categories preferred (tobacco, candy, beverages, snacks, etc.)
• Strong understanding of trade terms (allowances, rebates, billbacks, promotional funds).
• Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple categories or vendors simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

• Manage assigned categories and vendor relationships to drive sales and margin growth.
• Negotiate cost, terms, and programs directly with manufacturers and brand owners.
• Develop and track trade programs including rebates, billbacks, and promotional allowances.
• Analyze category and item-level profitability to make data-driven purchasing decisions.
• Identify new product opportunities and manage item setup, discontinuations, and transitions.
• Collaborate with the sales and warehouse teams to ensure product flow and availability.
• Stay current on market trends, competitive pricing, and vendor program updates.
• Attend key trade shows, manufacturer visits, and industry events as needed.
