Financial Care Counselor

Job Title: Financial Care Counselor Cost Center: 603181100 IMHos-Financial Counseling Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Employee Type: Regular Work Shift: Mon-Fri; day shifts (United States of America) : JOB SUMMARY The Financial Care Counselor is responsible for work relating to the operations of Pre-Access and Patient Access in all patient access areas. It includes verification of eligibility and benefits, copay collection, patient responsibility estimation and initiating uncompensated care or other third-party payers. Assists in the development and implementation of new systems and software including policy development, implementation and training. Assists the manager with administrative work related to patient access areas such as scheduling and staffing. Identifies customer service issues and resolves or initiates necessary follow-up. Work is conducted with established standards and procedures, requires efficiency and the ability to handle multiple tasks within a time sensitive structure. Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Associates Degree or holds a Certified Health Access Associate certificate or the equivalent education/experience in a related field. Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Minimum Required: Three years of current experience in hospital/healthcare business environment preferred, including knowledge of revenue cycle, charging and collection practices, admissions, discharges, transfers, medical necessity, compliance, third party billing. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledgeable with health information management systems. Superb communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle a changing working conditions and work well under pressure. Ability to maintain professional attitude and appearance. Must take initiative, exercise good judgment, and demonstrate resourcefulness. Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks. Preferred/Optional: Complete Medical Terminology course in the past (2) years is preferred or pass a Medical Terminology test and pass the Data Entry test.
