The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Grand Haven that are seeking skilled Buyers. Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
• Source, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to meet production needs.
• Place purchase orders and manage their lifecycle from creation to delivery.
• Monitor inventory levels to ensure material availability and minimize excess stock.
• Collaborate with engineering and production to define material specifications and requirements.
• Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities without compromising quality or supply.
• Manage supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proven experience in direct purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for procurement and inventory management.
• Demonstrated strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
• Solid understanding of supply chain principles, logistics, and inventory control.

Bonus Qualifications

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, fabrication).
• Experience with international sourcing and logistics.
• Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
• CPSM or other relevant professional certifications.
