The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of utility infrastructure projects from concept through completion. This role oversees budget, scope, schedule, and quality control for capital improvements, system upgrades, maintenance programs, and other utility-related projects. The Project Manager works cross-functionally with engineering, construction, safety, procurement, and regulatory teams to ensure all projects meet company goals and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end project management for utility infrastructure projects including electric transmission/distribution, substations, water mains, gas lines, or telecommunications networks.
- Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations in collaboration with internal teams and contractors.
- Coordinate design reviews, permitting, procurement, and construction efforts.
- Monitor project progress, control costs, and manage change orders to stay within scope and timeline.
- Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders, including engineering, operations, field crews, regulatory agencies, and third-party contractors.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and utility industry best practices.
- Maintain detailed project documentation including progress reports, financial tracking, and risk logs.
- Identify risks or obstacles early and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure quality control throughout the project lifecycle through regular inspections and milestone reviews.
- Support post-project reviews and closeouts, including performance analysis and lessons learned.
- Communicate project status and performance updates to senior leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field required.
- 5+ years of project management experience in the utility, energy, construction, or infrastructure sectors preferred.
- PMP certification preferred; utility-specific certifications (e.g., PE, CUSP) a plus.
- Strong understanding of utility operations, permitting, regulatory compliance, and field construction practices.
- Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar) and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, contracts, and technical specifications.
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel to field sites regularly.
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office and field environments, with regular visits to job sites.
- May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, construction hazards, and utility infrastructure.
- Must be able to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Availability for occasional extended hours, nights, or weekends based on project needs.
