Safety Specialist
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Develops programs and procedures designed to reduce occupational and non-occupational accident/injury/illness experiences.
- Promotes health and safety awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communications, participation, and programming.
- Coordinates creation of site Health and Safety targets and objectives in support of corporate, regional and business group safety strategic initiatives designed to drive a safety culture, compliance, and results.
- Manages development and maintenance of training programs on industrial safety, industrial hygiene, emergency planning, government regulations, hazardous materials, and other related issues. Tracks training completion.
- Implements all aspects ISO45001, 14001 and 50001.
- Identifies action-based health & safety goals for site leadership team members, functional managers and front-line leaders to support achievement of the site’s safety targets and objectives.
- Ensures completion of site and workstation-level risk assessments to identify and prioritize Health and Safety aspects and hazards.
- Supports the deployment of Health and Safety element champions and teams and facilitates their engagement in ownership of the activities required to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
- Manages the completion of a campus-wide evaluation of compliance with Federal, State, local and company Health and Safety requirements (OSHA, MIOSHA, etc.)
- Identify applicable OSHA, federal and state regulations to ensure compliance through standardized processes. Prepare and submit government reports as required by all applicable regulations.
- Leads site efforts to ensure that key Health and Safety operational controls are in place and that Health and Safety action items are resolved on a timely basis.
- Investigate workplace incidents.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Education and Experience (minimum qualifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in assisting with management of environmental, occupational health or safety programs within a manufacturing center environment.
- Professional certification preferred (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager or Certified Fire Protection Specialist).
- Ergonomics preferred.
- Management systems knowledge of planning, objectives and targets, preventative and corrective action, and monitoring/inspecting/auditing.
- Must have ability to work with minimal supervision and must be capable of implementing H&S Function activities as directed.
- Ability to lead and support cross-functional process improvement teams
- Ability to act as an agent of change.
- Ability to communicate with clarity, impact and passion with all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and track multiple projects to completion
- Understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes
- Ability to demonstrate managerial courage
Salary Range:
