The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Norton Shores that are seeking skilled Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, and modify precision tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operate and maintain various machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling malfunctions, implementing effective repair solutions.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Assist in the design and development of new tooling concepts and prototypes.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent formal training.
• Proven proficiency in operating a variety of manual and CNC machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDMs.
• Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMMs to verify part conformity.
• Strong understanding of various metals, alloys, and heat treatment processes used in tool manufacturing.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with advanced CAD/CAM software for tool design and simulation.
• Experience with CNC programming, including G-code and conversational programming.
• Background in Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Certification or experience in specialized machining processes like EDM or TIG welding.
