About the Role

Picture the start of your shift: the batch and temper furnaces are coming up to temperature, racking fixtures are staged, and the day’s heat‑treat schedule is in your hands. As the Batch Heat‑Treat Furnace Operator & Racking Lead, you’ll run the furnaces, set and fine‑tune controls, and keep production flowing while mentoring Batch Rackers. You’ll also jump in on the racks yourself when needed to keep us on pace.

What You’ll Do

• Operate both batch and temper furnaces; adjust settings and controls to meet processing requirements.
• Confirm that parts are racked correctly using the proper fixtures, alloys, and configurations before cycles begin.
• Perform routine upkeep on the carbon analyzer as required to maintain reliable readings.
• Burn shims and record all results; complete and organize batch paperwork and tags accurately.
• Assist with hands‑on racking and unracking of product; verify that unracking meets all specifications.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work area and support overall departmental organization.

Leadership

During the shift supervisor’s absence, you’ll direct Batch Rackers and other department team members, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

Training Path & Testing

• Work under the guidance of an approved furnace operator.
• Receive recommendations from your training operator and supervisor.
• Successfully pass a hands‑on assessment and a written Level 1 Heat Treat Test or Quality/Heat Treat Operations Test with a minimum score of 85%.
• Complete the Hi‑lo Permit Test.

Background & Skills

• High school diploma or GED preferred (not required). One to three months of related experience/training or an equivalent combination preferred.
• Language: able to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Math: comfortable adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using whole numbers and decimals.
• Reasoning: apply sound judgment to follow written, verbal, or diagrammed instructions.

Licenses & Certifications

• HI‑LO LICENSE REQUIRED; willingness to take the HI‑LO test is expected.

Physical & Environmental Conditions

• Regularly standing; occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent exposure to extreme heat; work area noise is moderately loud.
