Position: Superintendent of Schools

Position Summary:
Van Dyke Public Schools is seeking a courageous, equity-driven leader to serve as our next Superintendent. We are looking for an educational visionary who believes that equity is not a separate initiative, but the foundation of all district operations—from budget allocation and hiring to curriculum and student support. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of closing opportunity gaps and improving outcomes for marginalized students, as well as a deep connection with community partners and their value to our schools.


Reports to:
Board of Education

Supervises: Directly or Indirectly, all district employees and contractors

Qualifications: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate and/or Central Office Certification

Preferred minimum 5 years’ Administrative Experience in a Michigan Public School or District

Exceptions as Approved by Board of Education


Key Responsibilities & Competencies (not all-inclusive):

  • Focused, Vision-Driven Leadership: Display the ability to lead all district operations daily, working with your team to empower their strengths and support their needs.
  • Equity-Centered: Develop and implement plans and programs that place equity at the forefront of district goals; work toward weaving into the fabric of the district
  • Systemic Transformation: Proactively identify and dismantle policies that contribute to predictable, disproportional outcomes for specific student groups. Build and facilitate systems to support growth of all stakeholders, guided by input and the distinct knowledge of the superintendent to guide into new territories.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to monitor student outcomes, engagement, and school climate to ensure accountability. Facilitation of Cabinet and Administrative groups in the following areas:
    • Building Leadership
    • Business and Finance
    • Curriculum and Instruction
    • Facilities and Operations
    • Personnel and Human Resources
    • Safety and Crisis Response
    • Special Populations and Exceptional Students
    • Technology
  • Inclusive Culture of Learning: Promote a district culture that embraces equity and fosters belonging for students, staff, and families.
  • Resource Equity: Ensure the equitable distribution of resources, including technology, funding, and high-quality teachers, to schools and programs with the highest needs at various times.
  • Leadership Duties will also include:

o Local, State, and Federal legal and legislative awareness, advocacy, and communication with all stakeholders;

o Involvement in Bond projects and planning;

o Safety and crisis response planning and execution

o Integration into collective bargaining and union relations;

o Knowledge of district programs in curriculum, assessment, finance, grants, athletics, etc.;

o Collaboration with departments and buildings to help facilitate smooth ongoing district operations;

o Presence at district events whenever possible for strong sense of community support.


Evaluation:

  • Yearly evaluation as determined by Michigan Law with predetermined evaluation tool

Terms of Employment:

  • Contract to be negotiated; twelve-month working terms


Salary:

  • $135,000+ dependent upon qualifications and experience, plus a competitive benefits package
