Director, Visual Merchandising

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Visual Merchandising is responsible for shaping and executing a compelling in-store brand experience that inspires customers, drives sales, and reinforces High Profile Cannabis Shop's position as a best-in-class retailer. This role leads the strategic vision, design, and execution of visual merchandising across all stores, ensuring consistent storytelling, exceptional presentation standards, and agile adaptation to product, market, and promotional needs. Success requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and operational excellence—balancing bold brand expression with data-driven decision making. 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and own the company-wide visual merchandising strategy, ensuring alignment with brand, marketing, and merchandising objectives. 
  • Establish clear visual merchandising guidelines and toolkits for consistent execution across all locations. 
  • Lead concept development for product launches, promotional moments and holiday halo campaigns ensuring they are visually engaging and commercially impactful. 
  • Partner with retail operations, merchandising, and marketing to plan product displays, promotional campaigns, collateral needs, and in-store storytelling elements to elevate the customer journey 
  • Incorporate technology and physical experiences (e.g., interactive displays, digital signage) to enhance engagement and connect seamlessly with e-commerce. 
  • Oversee the design, sourcing, and placement of fixtures, signage, and digital displays to optimize flow, engagement, and conversion. 
  • Collaborate with construction and design teams on store openings, remodels, and refreshes to embed brand standards from day one. 
  • Develop processes for regular store audits, providing feedback, coaching, and tools to drive continuous improvement in visual execution. 
  • Manage the visual merchandising budget, balancing creativity with ROI and ensuring efficient use of resources. 
  • Track and analyze performance metrics tied to merchandising initiatives, leveraging insights to refine strategy and execution. 
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor visual merchandising team members, fostering collaboration and professional growth. 
  • Build strong relationships with vendors, agencies, and internal stakeholders to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in visual merchandising, preferably in retail, lifestyle, or specialty retail. 
  • Proven track record of leading visual merchandising initiatives in a retail environment 
  • Strong understanding of visual merchandising principles, including layout design, product presentation, and brand storytelling. 
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • A passion to build from scratch. Can picture a path to great and create the strategy and process to get there. 
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams. 
  • Exceptional creativity. Knows how to pull together multiple visual concepts into a cohesive plan. 
  • Stay grounded in market knowledge and customer insights. 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data and sales trends to inform decision making. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Knowledge of cannabis retail or other regulated industries is a plus. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk or hear; the employee is regularly required to use hands or fingers to, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds; the employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Knowledge of cannabis retail or other regulated industries is a plus.
  • Employee is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts; the employee is frequently required to work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
