Embedded Systems Engineer | Grand Rapids, MI

Salary Range: $84,000 - $129,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test embedded software for manufacturing equipment and control systems.
• Integrate embedded hardware and software components into production lines and machinery.
• Troubleshoot and debug embedded systems issues on the factory floor to minimize downtime.
• Develop and implement firmware updates and improvements for existing manufacturing assets.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure system reliability and performance.
• Design and build automated test fixtures and programming tools for production environments.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations for embedded systems in manufacturing.

Recommended Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development on microcontrollers.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal firmware development.
• Hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) and interpreting schematics.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, UART) and their implementation.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and experience supporting production test fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC UA).
• Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and integration.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849).
• Experience with Industrial IoT (IIoT) platforms and data analytics.
• Background in robotics or industrial automation integration.
