Perinatal Instructor 1 - OB/GYN * Shift Varies - Resource
- 2+ years of experience in maternal and infant health, or women’s health as a doula, midwife, nurse, medical assistant, lactation consultant, or nurse practitioner.
- If teaching Breastfeeding classes, the candidate must be a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC).
- BLS certification must be obtained within 3-month timeframe, or prior to instructing classes (will train).
- Must have one of the following:
- Diploma in a health-related field
- Associate's degree in nursing, public health, maternal and child health, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear instructions, constructive feedback, and build rapport with participants.
- Knowledge of prenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding, infant care, and safety guidelines.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse groups.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and counseling skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and approachable demeanor.
- Fluency in multiple languages (preferred but not required).
- Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with community members, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Cultural sensitivity to ensure programs are inclusive and accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds and physical abilities.
- Ability to travel locally to conduct in-person sessions or workshops.
- Flexibility to work evenings, and weekends to accommodate program schedules.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based educational programs and resources on maternal health, infant care, and parenting.
- Provide instruction on prenatal health, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, infant CPR, safe sleep practices, and postpartum care.
- Assist in the creation of educational materials, including handouts, presentations, and online resources.
- Offer emotional and practical support to expectant parents and caregivers through educational sessions and discussions.
- Assess the learning needs of participants and tailor lessons accordingly to ensure comprehensive understanding and engagement.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for families to ask questions, express concerns, and build confidence in their parenting abilities.
- Stay current on the latest research, guidelines, and practices in maternal and infant health to provide up-to-date, reliable information.
- Track participant attendance and provide feedback and follow-up as necessary.
- Maintain a confidential and non-judgmental approach while addressing sensitive topics related to maternal and infant health.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
