Embedded Systems Engineer | DeWitt, MI

Salary Range: $77,000 - $122,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test embedded hardware and firmware for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
• Integrate embedded systems with existing production line machinery, PLCs, and SCADA/MES.
• Troubleshoot and debug embedded systems on the factory floor to diagnose and resolve production issues.
• Develop real-time control algorithms and data acquisition systems for process monitoring and optimization.
• Ensure embedded systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations for manufacturing environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications for new solutions.
• Conduct root cause analysis for embedded system failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development on microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M).
• Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
• Strong hardware debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD debuggers.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, Profinet, SPI, I2C).
• Ability to read schematics, datasheets, and experience in developing production test firmware or fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, PROFINET, EtherCAT).
• Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and their integration with embedded devices.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation, data analysis, or scripting.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
