Sr. Counsel, Consumer Transactions
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role SummaryWe’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated attorney to help lead Rivian’s legal strategy around consumer product sales — from vehicles and accessories to embedded software and finance products. You’ll advise on everything from retail and e-commerce transactions to motor vehicle financial services and commercial agreements — bringing deep regulatory fluency and strong business judgment. This role sits at the intersection of law, innovation, and customer experience, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Consumer Product Sales.
Why This Role Matters
- Shape the Legal Backbone of EV Retail: Maintain and enhance calibrated legal rigor to how Rivian sells, leases, and finances vehicles across the U.S.
- Enable New Product Launches: Guide go-to-market compliance for Rivian’s expanding consumer offerings — including vehicles, accessories, and connected software.
- Drive Customer Trust: Support consumer protection, fair lending, fraud checks, and transparent policies that meet the highest regulatory and ethical standards.
- Support Commercial Growth: Draft and negotiate contracts with internal and external partners supporting Rivian’s omnichannel retail and financing operations.
- Provide legal counsel on motor vehicle sales, motor vehicle optional accessories/products, remarketing, and dealership operations.
- Advise on retail installment sales, leasing, and online-to-offline consumer sales experiences.
- Ensure Rivian’s consumer products and processes comply with Reg Z, Reg M, ECOA, FCRA, FTC UDAAP guidelines, OFAC screening, and other applicable laws, regulations, or regulatory guidance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with sales, marketing, and software partners.
- Deliver legal and compliance training to customer-facing teams.
- Collaborate with software engineering and design to ensure compliant customer interfaces and retail touchpoints.
- Develop scalable policies and maintain legal documentation, knowledge resources, and regulatory toolkits.
- Partner cross-functionally to identify and mitigate legal, compliance, and reputational risk across the consumer experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience (preferably including in-house)
- Demonstrated knowledge of motor vehicle sales, retail finance, and/or commercial contracting
- Familiarity with relevant consumer protection laws and regulations
- Proven ability to deliver high-impact training and guidance to non-legal stakeholders
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach and strong business acumen
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed
Salary Range for Atlanta, GA based applicants: $156,200 - $195,300 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).
