Must have at least 3 years in long term recovery and a CCAR or MDHHS Certificate.
Job Summary: The Peer Recovery Coach working in the OORP (Opioid Overdose Recovery Program) and QRT (Quick Response Team) provides immediate, compassionate support to individuals who have recently experienced an opioid overdose or a first responder contact related to substance use. Drawing from their own recovery experience, the Peer Recovery Coach helps individuals navigate treatment options, overcome barriers, and begin or maintain recovery.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support and adhere to the NPI Code of Ethics, work rules, policies, plans and procedures to promote a safe and secure environment for the residents, visitors and employees of New Paths.
- Conduct outreach within hours of an overdose or first responder referral, often in partnership with law enforcement, EMS, or clinical staff.
- Offer peer support and engage individuals in non-judgmental conversations about treatment, harm reduction, and recovery options.
- Connect individuals to detox, MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment), inpatient/outpatient treatment, or recovery support services.
- Provide overdose prevention education and distribute naloxone (Narcan) when applicable.
- Accompany individuals to treatment intake or appointments as needed.
- Maintain contact and follow up regularly to support ongoing recovery or harm reduction goals.
- Participate in meetings and collaborate with public safety, behavioral health, and community partners.
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision to maintain certification, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain documentation of services and client interactions in accordance with agency and privacy standards.
- Must be willing to be on call for 24 hours at a time.
Qualifications:
- Must be in active and sustained recovery from substance use for a minimum of 3 years and engage in a preferred recovery pathway.
- Personal experience in recovery from opioid use or co-occurring disorders is helpful not required. (ie AUD, SUD is acceptable)
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally in field-based, fast paced environments.
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries and handle situations confidentially.
- Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on empathy and trust building.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to build trust, relate to diverse populations, and work in correctional or community settings.
- Knowledge of local treatment resources, harm reduction, trauma informed care, and cultural competence.
- Comfortable working in collaboration with law enforcement, EMS, and public health teams.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with a team.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to deliver information and services in a timely fashion.
- Exhibit problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Must be in an abstinence based recovery program from all substance use disorders for a minimum of 3 years and engaged in a preferred recovery pathway.
- Must live in Genesee County
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Peer Recovery Coach certification through CCAR or MDHHS
- Valid driver licenses
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking.
- Must be able to go up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stretch.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors.
- Must be willing to drive and travel
