Occupational Therapist I – Acute & Outpatient (Days)
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly Rate: $32.00+ (increases based on experience)
- Sign-On Bonus: $14,000 (2-year commitment required)

- Shift Times: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Shift Structure Options:
- Sunday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Tuesday–Friday 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Weekend Requirements: Yes
- On-Call Requirements: Discussed at interview
Position Overview:
The Occupational Therapist I delegates responsibility to Occupational Therapist Assistants and Aides. Activities of this position are patient-focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive status.
- Develops goal-specific treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient tolerance.
- Submits written treatment plans for inclusion in the authorized plan of care and coordinates with the physician; updates plans as patient status changes.
- Co-signs verbal orders received by Occupational Therapist Assistants as required.
- Establishes treatment schedules, including frequency and duration, in coordination with patients, families, caregivers, and clinical staff.
- Educates patients, families, and caregivers regarding conditions, treatment options, prognosis, and therapeutic rationale.
- Provides supervision to Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students in accordance with regulatory standards.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recommends adaptive and supportive equipment; coordinates ordering and assists patients in securing equipment.
- Documents patient response to treatment and changes in condition per documentation and regulatory standards.
- Completes daily documentation required for billing and compliance.
- Provides treatment interventions and demonstrates competency in restoring or facilitating optimal function.
- Educates patients and caregivers on home exercise and treatment programs using effective teaching methods.
- Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team members to maximize quality of care.
- Promotes staff education, professional development, and process improvement initiatives.
- Assists with program development and participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Functions as a case manager for assigned cases.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient and organizational information.
- Demonstrates commitment to customer service, quality care, teamwork, and organizational values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including latex or approved alternatives.
- Ability to move freely throughout the facility and perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Requires adequate vision and hearing with or without assistive devices.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and postural changes including stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials; adherence to safety and testing protocols required.
- Ability to multitask, work independently, maintain attendance, and remain alert during scheduled hours.

Requirements:
Certifications & Licensure Requirements:
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required within 1 month of hire or transfer
- NBCOT: National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy
- OTR: Occupational Therapist Registration
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
Experience, Training & Skills:
- More than 1 year of experience preferred; new graduates considered
- Successful completion of organizational orientation and new hire competency
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Completion of required OSHA training annually
- Ability to work in environments with communicable disease exposure
- Ability to teach treatment routines to professional and non-professional individuals
- AOTA membership preferred
