Assembly Technician

Overview

The Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling and installing vehicle components and subassemblies, ensuring adherence to high-quality and safety standards. Responsibilities may vary depending on whether prototype or production vehicles are being assembled. This is a dynamic opportunity for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, manufacturing experience, and keen attention to detail.

Pay: $20-26/hr

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble vehicle components and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, work orders, and process instructions.
  • Ensure each vehicle meets quality standards.
  • Perform detailed inspections to verify the accuracy and functionality of assemblies.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, fabricators, and mechanics to achieve departmental goals and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to track work progress and promptly address issues.
  • Keep the work environment clean and organized.
  • Ensure all processes and the work environment comply with safety regulations.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and process instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency using common hand tools and equipment.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent attention to detail; committed to producing high-quality products.
  • Dependable and punctual, with reliable transportation.
  • Able to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs. and standing for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including weekends as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Regular, daily commute to New Hudson required.
  • Day shift: 6:00 or 6:30 AM start, Monday–Friday, 40-hour work week (overtime as required).

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Desired Skills & Knowledge

  • Prior experience in low volume, prototype-level vehicle assembly or related manufacturing environments.
  • Prior vehicle repair, diagnostic, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Basic metalworking/fabrication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of vehicle-related pneumatic and/or cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage (HV) electrical vehicle systems.

Top 3 Qualifications Sought

  1. Previous vehicle assembly and/or repair experience.
  2. Dependable, with reliable transportation and availability to work 40–50 hours per week.
  3. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for most of the shift.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Electric/high-voltage vehicle experience.
  • Personal tools that can be used onsite.
  • Paint or powder coat experience.
  • Welding/fabrication experience.
